Student frequently had difficulty with speaking rate, distracting mannerisms, eye contact, and/or involving the audience.  Had difficulty connecting to the audience.

Student demonstrated good communication skills and appeared enthusiastic.  Occasional difficulty maintaining eye contact, involving the audience, speaking rate, and/or distracting mannerisms.

Student demonstrated excellent communication skills.  Maintained eye contact, involved the audience, spoke at an appropriate pace / volume, avoided distracting mannerisms, and displayed enthusiasm for the topic.

Preparedness / Content 35%

Student unprepared for presentation.  Lacked knowledge and/or confidence about the topic.  Information was frequently incorrect.

Student needed more preparation to adequately discuss topic.  Frequent gaps in knowledge or lack of confidence in ability to explain topic.

Student was adequately prepared, but could benefit from additional preparation.  Occasional gaps in student’s knowledge of topic and/or minor incorrect information presented.

Student was well prepared for the presentation.  Stated objectives of the discussion, was knowledgeable and confident discussing the topic, and provided accurate information.

Presentation and handout were difficult to follow, unorganized, and/or had numerous typo’s

Presentation and/or handout had organizational problems.  Multiple typo’s.

Minor organizational difficulties in either presentation or handout.  Rare typo’s.

Presentation and handout were well organized in a logical sequence, using smooth transitions between topics and speakers.

Student guessed at answers during questioning, or unprepared to answer appropriate questions.

Student probably had the knowledge needed to answer questions, but had difficulty verbalizing a response.

Student was able to respond to questions but occasionally required follow-up prompts for full explanation of idea.

Students repeated the question to assure understanding, and answers were correct and complete without bluffing.
